Waste Heat Boilers

TEi-Struthers Wells Division’s Waste Heat Boilers can be designed to cool process gases with temperatures above 2,600 degrees F (1,400 degrees C) and pressures above 3,000psi (210 kg/cm2), generating high quality steam to pressures higher than 2,100 psi (150 kg/cm2) and for steam generation rates up to 500,000 lb/hr (230,000 kg/hr).

Fire Tube Boilers

In earlier years, the use of steam generating pressures above about 1,200 psi (85kg/cm2) almost automatically dictated the use of a water tube design because of lack of experience with fire tube designs at the higher steam pressures. Currently, with today’s rigorous stress analysis techniques and the innovation of the multiple compartment concepts, fire tube Waste Heat Boilers are no longer limited to the lower steam generation pressures.

Water Tube Waste Heat Boilers

Although not as common as the Fire Tube design, U-tube boilers have been supplied and operated for many years with forced or natural circulation. The water tube boiler utilizes the U-tube design with water/steam flowing in the tubes. The hot gas flows in the shell. To control the outlet temperature, the shell is designed with a gas bypass nozzle. Because of the high gas temperature, the shell is lined with refractory.

Kettle Type Reboilers

Regarding sulfuric acid and sulfur plants, TEI-Struthers Wells Division has extensive experience in the design of high-pressure fire tube boilers has increasingly been utilized in the cooling of sulfurous gases in Sulfuric Acid and Sulfur Recovery plants. High demand for sulfuric acid production for fertilizer plants and desulphurization of refined oil products has resulted in many large boilers being installed.

We can offer either the kettle type with integral steam separation for low or medium steam pressures or natural circulation design with separate steam drum for higher pressures. Both types utilize the thin tubesheet with flexible shell-to-tubesheet connection design. Even stressing of the tubesheet on multiple pass designs is a feature of the design, eliminating the use of tie rods.

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Systems

TEI-Struthers Wells Division and its predecessor were the pioneers in Enhanced Oil Recovery OTSG technology. Today this technology is used in many of the boilers operating in oil fields, with over 1,200 Struthers steam generators in service throughout the world.

TEI-Struthers Wells Divisoin invented the Once Through technology that is currently used in steam generators for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). That same engineering design has kept oil refineries pumping for decades.
