Increase in Power Generation with Improved Reliability

Danvers, MA – Vogt Power International Inc. (Vogt Power), located in Louisville, KY, a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc., based in Danvers, MA, has received a contract from Gama Power Systems Engineering and Contracting Inc. to supply a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and associated equipment to the Riga TPP2-Phase II combined cycle power plant project. The HRSG will be installed at the AS Latvenergo Generating plant located in Riga, Latvia.

Vogt Power will supply one (1) unfired, three pressure level natural circulation HRSG with reheat section for use behind a General Electric 9FB gas turbine for the Riga CHP-2 power plant rehabilitation program, replacing the old generating facilities with two new state-of-the-art combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units. Latvenergo produces around 95 percent of the total Latvian power capacity via its two combined heat and power facilities – Riga CHP-1 and Riga CHP-2, and its hydroelectric power plants. The rehabilitation of the Riga CHP-2 power plant is part of a program to improve the security and reliability of energy supply in Latvia and the Baltic region, and the planned increased generation capacity of the upgraded plant will help Latvia reduce its dependence on imported energy.

“Our HRSG technology and associated equipment allows our customers to generate safe, reliable, environmentally friendly low-cost energy in a very short time frame to meet increasing demand,” stated Steve Kapsalis, President and CEO, Vogt Power International Inc. “We are pleased to be working with Gama Power on the Riga CHP-2 power plant rehabilitation program to bring secure and reliable power to the region.”
