Vogt Power Positioning for Next Generation of Combined Cycle Power Plants

Danvers, MA – Vogt Power International Inc. (Vogt Power), located in Louisville, KY, a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc., based in Danvers, MA, has announced leadership changes intended to further enhance its role as an industry innovator for the design and supply of Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), to meet the increasing demands of the new advanced generation of combined cycle power plants.

Tony Thompson is being promoted to Chief Technology Officer, and Joe Nitzken has joined Vogt Power as Vice President of Engineering, replacing Thompson.

“The new advanced gas turbines, whether operating in a cyclical or fast start operation, generate elevated pressures and temperatures which present significant design challenges in material selection and life cycle analysis for the HRSG,” stated Steve Kapsalis, President and CEO of Vogt Power International. “We will be required to exhibit our technical prowess, and skillfully communicate the sophistication level of our solutions to our customers as we continue to differentiate Vogt Power from the competition. Tony Thompson will lead this effort for our organization. He has distinguished himself as a technical expert in all aspects of HRSG design and analysis, and is well respected by our customers and competitors alike,” Kapsalis said.

Concerning Mr. Nitzken, Ron Pancari, Vogt Power’s Chief Operating Officer stated, “Joe’s vast strategic and tactical leadership, combined with his successful history of product and process improvements while promoting customer satisfaction and teamwork, will allow us to strengthen our position in the marketplace.”

Executive Biographies

Tony Thompson – Chief Technology Officer, Vogt Power International Inc. Mr. Thompson joined Vogt Power in 1985 as a Sales Engineer, and was promoted to Director of Engineering in 1994, then to Vice President of Engineering in 2007. Mr. Thompson holds Engineering Degrees from Rose Hulman Technical Institute.

Joe Nitzken, P.E. – Vice President Engineering, Vogt Power International Inc. Mr. Nitzken has over 30 years of engineering and operations experience. Most recently as Vice President of Engineering – Field Service for AAF-McQuay, Inc. a world leader in air pollution control, air filtration, acoustics, and power augmentation. Mr. Nitzken’s HRSG experience includes; Manager of Project and Product Engineering for Vogt Power and Senior Project Engineer for the Henry Vogt Machine Company. Mr. Nitzken has held positions with Caldwell Energy & Environmental, Inc., Naval Systems Command and Charleston naval Shipyard. He has a Master of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (M Eng), and a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School.
