Mercury Removal
Activated Carbon
Babcock Power Environmental Inc. has developed a portfolio of technologies that can be applied for many applications to meet the new mercury removal regulations utilizing activated carbon. Babcock Power Environmental has established an exclusive agreement with RWE Power’s Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH (RBB) of Cologne, Germany to apply their Activated Lignite HOK®, an activated carbon product, and associated technology used for mercury emission control in coal fired power plants, as well as gas cleaning processes in waste-to- energy plants, hazardous waste disposal facilities and other industrial facilities.
HOK® has been used worldwide in more than 400 waste management facilities to control mercury and dioxin emissions, as well as in RWE Power’s coal-fired power plants for mercury control. Activated Lignite HOK® was tested in the US on a full-scale utility plant, proving to be an excellent mercury control adsorbent comparable with benchmark sorbent activated carbon.
